My Thoughts about Speaking class

MOST USEFUL: World Studies Meetings, because It was a challenge  to improve my English.

Tumblr was good because It is easy to post homework.

Speeches because the class is speaking, so the more we talk more we learned

LEAST USEFUL: News

I ENJOYED; Speeches because everybody tried to do their best and shared about their country. I learned interesting things from each country

I DISLIKED: Recording with American students,  and debates in class

On Thursday 5th, during the class time, Khan and  I went to the students commons. We asked questions about illegal immigration to four people. The fist one was a  man who was promoting something his name is Fred Schemeling. He told us that he dosen’t like the word illegal because nobody is illegal, and also illegal could mean criminal. His parents came to USA from Europe, so he said people should be legal and then get a drive licence, etc,  The other person waastudent whose name is  Michele Murris. She said that the immigrants bring to the coutry good values such as family together, hard work, cultura, and this country is made by immigrants so everybody should be welcome. We also asked to the people about the wall that the USA is building on the border with Mexico. All of them said that it is not good because we should build bridges to help others, and we should make better immigration lows.

The people also think that general deportation is not fair because each case is special.

On Saturday afternoon I met my friend Quy and we made eggs roles.

She is  Vietnamese-American, her parents came to USA 36 years ago and she was born here. Make eggs roles is not easy, but we decided to make because we love eggs roles. First, we went to Asian Market to buy the ingredients. It was my first time there, so I  was excited looking  different kinds of food that we do not have in my country. I also saw many Asian people buying, and I asked them about the vegetables that I din’t know. A lady from South Korea told me that she miss Korean food, so shy trys to cook at home when she has time.

When we came back home, we started to make the eggs roles. It was  a hard work, but I enjoy talking with my friend who was teaching me patiently. Quy said that Vietnamese people love to cook as a family and eat together.

On Sunday mornig, I went to Sant Michael Chuch. After mass, I was walking around when I saw a old man who was drinking coffee. I say hello and he started to talked with me. He asked me about the politic in Guatemala. I explain to him some few things, and I asked about USA. He told me that the coming elections will be different because  the situation everywhere is hard. He dosen’t like the idea of belonging to the party and act as a blind voting only because the party and not for the person.  He said that for the coming elections is so important that the people look carefully for who want to choose. We should learn from our history because this help us to change our future. I asked him about the situation in the country. He said that we are going to have  a hard time becuase the economy is going  down every day. When I say we, I am talking about the world because everything that happend anywhere affect all people. We have to take care of our action always because the world is a family.

I enjoyed talking whit him (unfortunately, I didn’t ask his name) to me hi is a very smart man.

about Kenya

On Saturday evening I spoke with Sr. Bernadeth Hilmar in our livingroom. She is a missionary, and she had been in Africa for many years. She told me that she went to Kenya where she shared with people from several tribes like Turkanas, Massai and Kikuyu. The Turkanas live in the Northwest of Kenya, and they raising camels. The women and men wear almost the same cloths. They have especial ceremonies for each activity every day. Bernardeth said that the Massai are more nomadic because they have a lot of cows, so they have to move around looking  for grass to feed thier animals. When there is not rain in Kenya for a long time, the Massai have an especial dance to ask for the rain. For this tribe cows are so important, they do not want to educate thier children because if tey became professionals, they will forget the cows. The other tribe is the kikuyu, they are more rich because they have the best land of Kenya and they work in the agriculture.Bernardeth told me that she had a great experience in Kenya. I did not aske her about go back, but I am sure that she wants that because when we were talking, she was so excited

I spoke with Tony

On Sunday Evening, I met Tony, and we talked about her job.

She is working in ALLIED animal hospital as a secretary. She told me that she enjoys that job because she talks with many people about their animals.

She is a nurse, therefore; in the past, she used to work in the Blue Cross. She had worked there for 30 years. She was a Medical Analyst. Now she has another job because if she wants to work in a hospitaltaking care of the patients, she has to go back to the school. The jardest part of the job as a nurse, according with Tony is keeping education and work with difficult patient.

Today in USA health care is so expensive and many people do not have apportiunity to receive a triatment. Acording with the low, hospitals must treat people who are sick even though they do not have money.
